Please Be Safe Around the Old Lynchburg Road Construction Project

The OLR Safety, Sidewalks and Drainage project contractor wishes to pass this message along:

“AS YOU KNOW THIS LINE OF WORK IS VERY DANGEROUS WITH HEAVY EQUIPMENT MOVING AROUND,HEAVY STRUCTURES MOVED THROUGH THE AIR,DEEP OPEN TRENCHES AND EXPOSED UTILITIES.WE FOLLOW OSHA GUIDELINES IN REFERENCE TO SAFETY. I'M HAVING TO TURN AROUND AND NOTICE HOMEOWNERS ARE IN THE CONSTRUCTION LIMITS TALKING TO WORKERS , STANDING NEXT TO A TRENCH EXCAVATED 10’ IN THE GROUND TAKING PICTURES OR EVEN WALK UP TO WORKERS CHIPPING STUMPS WITH NO EYE PROTECTION I UNDERSTAND HOW IMPORTANT THIS PROJECT IS TO THE COMMUNITY, BUT IT'S MY RESPONSIBILITY AS A CONTRACTOR TO THINK OF SAFETY.  THIS IS SOMETHING THAT MAY BE AN ISSUE AND NEED TO PROCEED A DIFFERENT ROUTE. THE HOMEOWNERS WILL NEED TO PURCHASE PROPER PPG (PERSONAL PROTECTIVE GEAR)—HARD HATS /GLASSES/VEST AND ALSO BE LED BY A REPRESENTATIVE TO A SAFE AREA OF WORK SITE, SO NOT TO BE UNSAFE. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND I DO NOT MIND THE COMMUNICATION AND THE ABUNDANCE OF PHOTOS TAKEN, BUT NEED TO STRESS *SAFETY*”

Charlottesville Wants Your Feedback on Its Comprehensive Plan

Old Lynchburg Road, Safety, Sidewalks and Drainage Update

We are excited to see movement on several fronts of the project this month. Since the start date on December 17, 2012, we continue to receive and approve the various material submittals to be used on the project. These submissions also will include the master schedule for the project and we will be able to share that information with you soon.

Many of you have now seen the black silt fence installed along the front yards. This will provide some protection from mud and silt traveling into the properties during the rain storms. It does not stop the water, but acts as a filter to trap the sediment.

The concrete pipe and drainage structures are being manufactured now and will start to be delivered to Middleton Lane on January 23rd.  Middleton Lane, between OLR and McElroy Drive, will be closed at that time for approximately 1 to 2 weeks. The traveling public will need to take alternate routes during that time. Property owners with driveways on Middleton Lane will be provided access during this period and the contractor will coordinate directly with them on the specific changes.

Coordination with Dominion Power and Centurylink has begun. This work is related to the pole relocation needed at the Beach Club fence. A traffic control plan will include a one lane closure with flagmen directing for two way traffic. We apologize for any inconvenience ahead of time, but there may be brief periods when two lanes will be closed and we will keep these to a minimum.

We have met with the clearing sub-contractor on-site to review the removal of the existing tree stumps along OLR . This work will provide a  clear path for the new storm water pipe system starting at Middleton Lane and extending to JPA along the west side of the street. We expect this phase of work to begin no later than the week of January 21st.

We wish to remind everyone to relocate any small plantings, within the construction area, that you wish to have saved. This should be done as soon as possible.

Again we wish to thank everyone for their participation in making this community project possible and appreciate your cooperation as we move it forward.
